Sauvignon Blanc Ritchie Vineyard 2008 |
||||||||
![]() In the heart of the cool Russian River Valley, the gently sloped Ritchie Vineyard bends around a northwest-facing knoll of fine, well drained Goldridge loam soil. The struggling gnarly vines, planted nearly 40 years ago, yield small grape clusters with ripe skins and concentrated, rich fruit character that are hand-picked and sorted. The juice in 2008 was inoculated with a strain of yeast from the Loire region of France, notable for the naturally enhancing Sauvignon Blanc varietal characteristics. Barrel fermentation and sur lie aging in French oak lend firmness and palate richness, establishing structure for this wine to retain depth and complexity for several years.
The nose offers aromas of white pepper, citrus and fresh cut grass. On the palate, rich layers of Ruby grapefruit, Lychee ice cream and sourgrass join to create a plush, yet defined mouthfeel. |
